Dear Mr. President and members of Congress
I am a 38 year old construction worker who has had enough of the federal government and I want out. Our Declaration of Independence states that "...whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government"
I believe our government has been destructive of these ends for many decades. The power of the state is used more to supercede the rights of the individual and less to protect these rights. Therefore I wish to withdraw my consent to be governed. I would like to "opt out" so to speak. I would like to opt out of being taxed by the federal government in exchange for not using any federal sevices. This means that I would never take a penny from Social Security or Medicare or any other federal program, ever, for the rest of my life. I would never be deemed a "burden on the system". Even if it means that I can no longer use the federal highway system, so be it. I think this a fair exchange for I would still follow the laws of my state, county and city. The federal government has been too far gone for far too long and I want out of it. I implore you Mr. President, members of Congress, please release me.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not seeking to abandon my fellow Americans in need, in fact the opposite is true. I feel that I can do much more good with my hard-earned money when I get to decide whom I wish to help. I also believe that it is used much more efficiently in this manner. To put it bluntly, government bureaucracy is wasteful, incompetent and is about as friendly in nature as a bulldozer. I'm not wasteful, I'm not incompetent and I'm very friendly. Please have faith that I am a good American.
I am not naive and know that this will never come to pass. I also realize that this letter will not recieve the full consideration it duly deserves. For if you release me from my federal bondage, others might see my success and wish to also free themselves. I realize that this cannot happen, for it would undermine your power and authority over us and possibly alter our current form of government. I do not believe that you will let this happen even though our founding documents declare to the world that this is our right as human beings. Despite all of that, I felt the need to express my feelings to you anyway while I still had the right to do so. If you do in fact read this, thank you for taking the time to do so.
Sincerely,
One American

3 simple rules
Looking at how the government violates (on a daily basis) the rules laid our for it I ask; "Why should I follow their rules?" The only answer I can come up with that makes any sense is that the government will use force against me if they catch me.
But what about the government? What happens when they don't follow their own rules? We get more unconstitutional laws than we can possibly know. We're expected to follow laws that they are not allowed to be making. Then when the government gets called out on these violations the courts redefine words in order to side with the government. And we're expected to think that this is how a free society functions.
This country went from a nation of rugged individuals to a nation of laws. There isn't one part of your life that doesn't have some kind of legislation attached to it. A truly free society does not need millions of laws, so many that no person could possibly know every one them, yet "ignorance of the law is no excuse". It's a joke.
A truly free society only needs 3 laws:
Law #1 Any kind of assault is strictly forbidden. This covers murders, kidnappings, rape, battery, domestic abuse, etc.
Law #2 Theft of any kind is strictly forbidden. This covers robbery, burglary, carjacking, hijacking, confidence scams, fraud, etc.
Law #3 The private property rights of others shall not be violated. This covers trespassing, vandalism, etc.
These are the acts of criminality where there is to be government intervention once one of these laws are broken. Punishment for violating these simple rules should be severe and ignorance should be no excuse. We have the right to life and liberty (see rule #1) and we have the right to pursue happiness and the right to our justly acquired property (See rules #2 and #3) after that, the government needs to just stay out of our way and let us be free to decide for ourselves the day-to-day functions of our lives and society.
Humanity as a whole would be in a much better place right now if the world's governments concentrated only on enforcing 3 simple rules and left people alone.

Government fixes don't work
The government tried to "fix" the economic "downturn" last year by handing money out to Americans. Did that work? Nope. How much did it cost? $168,000,000,000. Of course most won't complain because they got a check and don't really care beyond that. Nobody seems to make the connection that this government "fix" failed miserably to the tune of $168,000,000,000.
We were told that if Bear Stearns was not bailed out that the economy would go bad and things would get worse. Bear Stearns was bailed out for about $30 billion, but that didn't stop AIG from needing a 120+ billion rescue did it? Did bailing out Bear Stearns keep Lehman from sinking? Nope, the government had to give JP Morgan $87 billion to buy Lehman. Did any of that help the economy? Nope.
We were told that if the government didn't act quickly with these bailouts (hundreds of billions of dollars and trillions more to come) the economy was going to take a huge downturn and people would lose their jobs. The government acted quickly with no oversight of the money and started handing it out like candy at Halloween. Did any of that work? Nope, businesses are going under and shedding jobs like a dog sheds hair and banks are going under left and right.
The government's plan now is to spend more money and cut taxes. Hmmm, didn't George W. do that? They want to do yet another "economic stimulus" (because the last one worked so well right?) plan and "fix" the economy. We're told that if the government doesn't act quickly, things are going to get worse. Looks to me like things only get worse when the government tries to fix them. How many times are you going to fall for it?

That guy says it better than I ever could
"That guy" would be a one William N. Grigg. And what he says better than I could can be found here. There is also a link to his Pro Libertate Blog in the links section on the right of this page. I haven't read everthing of his, but I like what I've read so far and find very little to disagree with. Enjoy, I'm goin on vacation.
