I had not been born yet when this went on, but I wonder if I will not see history repeat itself yet again. The people involved above were protesting the Viet Nam War and were obviously very angry about their gov't going against their wises. You see how they were treated by their gov't.
Tomorrow starts the Democratic Convention of '08 and the cops are ready. In fact, they've become downright paranoid. They've already arrested a man who apparently picked the wrong hotel in making his travel plans.
Big Brother is watching.
DENVER - The security command center looks like a room straight out of a Hollywood thriller -- its long rows of tables set with phones and laptops, flat screens on the walls with zooming satellite images of downtown Denver.
It's a 24-hour nerve center for command-level authorities keeping a watchful eye over security for this week's Democratic National Convention. If protesters -- or anyone -- tries anything unlawful, leaders of 62 agencies ranging from the Secret Service to the city's waste department will be watching and responding.
As I write this, two people have already been arrested for not doing anything wrong.
One was told he was being arrested for having his face covered with a black scarf on convention grounds, and another was placed into custody for not cooperating with police after coming to the first protester's defense. Both were placed in plastic handcuffs and escorted to a police van.
It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
UPDATE: Here's how it played out.
